Golden Ratio Calipers – Custom Logos
If you want, I can make golden ratio calipers, with custom logos. I have a couple of laser-cutters, and about 5 years of practice, so if you’d like your own logo or design on a case, I can probably do it. It’s fairly simple – basically a 2-tone or 3-tone effect… there are examples below that I’ve done for people recently. I can also cut different designs – so within the constraints that you can hopefully recognise from the examples here, if you can draw it, I can make it. Photo Gallery
Day-Glo Cases
Having upgraded all the photos, I can’t help thinking the whole thing looks a bit monochrome, so (with a little help from my friends), I’ve launched a new selection of day-glo cases. These are basically the same cases as before, but with a single layer of day-glo acrylic. This gives a subtler and more interesting effect than making the whole case day-glo. For some reason, there only seems to be 3 day-glo acrylic colours… I guess I could do this with any colour, but the brighter ones have a bit more zing. Photo Gallery
New Photos; New Website etc.
Well that was a drama. The website decided to go into complexity-overshoot mode at the same time as my WIFI went down, so I wound up spending 3 days rebuilding the thing using a cellphone. I’m getting to be to old for this sort of thing. It’s traumatic. Anyway, I’ve taken a load of new photos using the new photo-booth thing: I cannot describe what a saga this has been. I’ve found that it’s incredibly hard to take photos. In the end I wound up abandoning the DSLR, and used a cellphone. They’re getting to be pretty good now. They don’t do depth of field as well as DSLRs, and there isn’t the same degree of control, but when you’re shooting in a confined space, at changing distances it’s better to sacrifice some of that to manoeuvrability. Anyway – the website is (as things stand) 90% finished… which leaves another…
Golden Mean Calipers : Update
New Workshop just prior to getting proper professional help (Time passes…) Quite a lot of time actually… I’ve moved workshop again, and “I” is now well and truly “We”… with the addition of several full-time, and several part-time staff. It turns out that one of my people (who is a qualified and experienced industrial-design engineer) has phenomenal organisational abilities (which is kindof the opposite to what I have) so I’ve asked him to manage the whole thing… so the photo above will doubtless, in due-course, turn into something that looks a bit more like a proper scientific lab on a space-ship from the future. This sort of thing, but with extra hydroponics. At least part of the reason to hire a proper manager is to free me up so I can pay more attention to things like this blog… which has (for those who care to notice) been suffering from…
New Case Design
Basically a recombo of existing materials, but it looks so cool I think I might make this my main case. I’m getting some injection-moulded polyprop cases made… which I’ll hopefully be able to laser-engrave. I’ve never tried to engrave polyprop before. It’s a bit of a nightmare to cut – it melts rather than burning… and laser-cutting works by burning, which is why you can cut steel, but not wax. I haven’t got it together to actually make these available in the shop yet – if anyone would like one, let me know.
