Since about 1/3 of everything I sell goes via Amazon, I figured I probably ought to put the cases up on Amazon as well. People mainly buy the curvy front ones, which (entirely by accident) work like a very simple Chinese puzzle – ie: you have to slide both halves in opposite directions at the same time to open them. Otherwise they stay shut. Anyway, I got a proper grown-up photographer to take the photos, and these are the photos he took: Quite strange – there seems to be a fashion at the mo for de-saturating things… and to me it kindof makes everything look a bit like cgi. This is a photo that I took of the same box… If left to my own devices, I kindof over-saturate/contrast things, and have odd bits of tungsten light bouncing about. Then again, I’m utterly incapable of photographing things the same way…

After about 3 years of trying, I’ve finally managed to make a design for sets of all 3 calipers… which is (surprise surprise), a combination of existing designs I finally got around the problem of the calipers falling out once inside, by making little seat-belts for the smaller ones. These can pivot out of the way so you can get the calipers out Which works quite well. I’d have preferred not to have moving parts, but I think this solution is better than having elastic, or something held in place with magnets (which could then get lost). Simpler is better… and the whole thing looks quite cool I think. I’ve worked out the price to be $49 – which is doable… but I suspect the way I make postage free, wipes out any profit. Sending a set of 3 costs an extra $20 in stamps… and these won’t be that…

OK, so I haven’t actually got it together to make a video of my own yet… even though I’ve been trying to get round to it for over 2 years now. I do have the location, camera, script etc all set up. Everything is in place etc. In the meantime, a brief glimpse of the calipers on this here vid from Mr Bigglesworthy, designers of uber-hip furniture Which is so cool I can hardly stand it, and feel slightly faint etc. I’ve mainly been making guitars of late… and have kindof (sortof) started a new umbrella thing called “Neoiko.com“… which at the moment is mainly to do with building cigar-box guitars.

Absolutely amazing photographs of the 100 year old Kelenföld Power Plant in Budapest, Hungary. This is what the ancient ships from Dune etc should look like. Beautifully familiar, yet alien at the same time. This place should constitute an atemporal steam-punk-oid genre all on its own. A kind of Space-Deco. I wonder how difficult it would be to get it going again… mind you, it looks like it should do so much more than simply control electricity production… it should be able to warp time – span galaxies. Anyhoo… I’m not sure if the design has anything to do with the golden ratio, but the photos sure do. Beautifully photographed… and the photographer really knows about composition. The following photo for example could quite easily be a fairly mundane flight of stairs… but the light and the composition are fantastic. This is how it’s done. More photos and a bit…

I’m now offering bespoke engraving for the caliper cases. If you have a logo, or piece of art… or any black and white drawing, chances are I can turn it into a vector graphic, and put it on a case. I’m charging $10 for this service (bargain). If you’re interested, email me the drawing, and I’ll convert it, test it and send back a sample photo – your design etched onto an offcut – which will give you an idea of whether it’s going to work or not. I’ve already made a couple of one-off designs for people, and they’ve worked really well. My email address is
